DiDi payment declined — what to do

You requested a car in mainland China’s DiDi app and payment failed before or after the trip. Official travel materials note that visitors can register with international numbers, complete passport real-name verification, and link international cards (Travel China apps page).

Quick checks

1. Finish DiDi real-name

If passport verification inside DiDi is pending, add payment methods after it clears (DiDi setup guide).

2. Prefer a wallet that already works

If your foreign card declines inside DiDi, switch the trip payment method to Alipay or WeChat Pay that you already tested in a shop. Fix those wallets first if needed:

As with wallet binds, banks may block unfamiliar merchant names (China Daily on issuer authorization). Approve push alerts; enable overseas payments; retry once.

Clear any unpaid prior ride before requesting a new one.

Use stable mobile data during checkout. If a network proxy tool is on, turn it off for the payment attempt.

How to capture evidence (helps support)

If you contact wallet support or your bank:

  1. Screenshot the exact error text (English or Chinese).
  2. Note the time in China Standard Time (UTC+8) once you are in mainland China.
  3. Mask card numbers before you send images anywhere public.
  4. Keep the merchant name and approximate amount.

Do not post live QR codes or full passport pages on social media.

When to stop retrying

If two careful attempts fail after you fixed SMS, real-name, and bank alerts, switch to another wallet or cash for that purchase. Continued declines can deepen issuer fraud locks.
